If you teach high school computer science in northeastern Louisiana, we invite you to express interest in participating in a research study.
We are conducting a research study focused on the knowledge and skills students need in order to successfully write computer programs with AI (that is, AI pair programming). Your participation will make an important contribution to education research as we determine how to design AI pair programming experiences that are most beneficial to students. You do not need to have any experience with or knowledge about AI to participate.
Teachers who participate in this study will learn about and then implement AI pair programming in their classroom.
If you are chosen to participate in this study, you will:
Attend a one-day in-person professional development meeting where we prepare to implement AI pair programming (summer 2026)
Implement AI pair programming in your computer science class(es) (fall 2026)
Review findings and then attend a virtual meeting to help us interpret the findings (November 2026 and November 2027)
Attend a virtual meeting to help us update the student and teacher materials (January 2027 and January 2028)
Please note that dates are tentative. We estimate that your total time commitment will be about 35 hours, with most of that time in the first year. We will offer participants yearly incentives; the incentive for full participation over three years will total approximately $1450.
If you are interested in participating, please complete our brief form.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact Dr. Julie M. Smith at julie@csedresearch.org.
