Entries are now being accepted for the 5th Annual CWPPRA Wetland Writing Contest!
Louisiana students in grades K-12 are challenged to compose a personal tribute to coastal wetlands in the form of a short story, personal narrative, or poem. Prizes will be awarded in all three genres for each grade bracket. Only entries submitted through the link below will be accepted. Submissions are due on April 13, 2026. Rules and regulations can be found on the submission form.
*Please note: The submission deadline has been moved up at the request of teachers so that certificates are ready in time for End of Year Awards.
The CWPPRA Wetland Writing Contest was established in November 2020 in memory of Jennifer Ritter Guidry, CWPPRA’s Public Outreach Coordinator from 2019-2020. Inspired by Jennifer’s passion for Louisiana’s coastal culture, the CWPPRA Wetlands Writing Contest encourages young writers to unleash their creativity through sharing their own knowledge and experience of our coastal wetlands.

The Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act, (CWPPRA, pronounced kwǐp-rŭh), is federal legislation enacted in 1990 that is designed to identify, prepare, and fund construction of coastal wetlands restoration projects. Since its inception, over 200 coastal restoration or protection projects have been authorized, benefiting approximately 100,000 acres in Louisiana. In addition to maintaining coastal ecosystems through restoration projects, CWPPRA also supports environmental educational initiatives by providing free informational and educational materials on the importance of protecting our wetlands.
